Garner Fire-Rescue and Wake EMS Station Now Open

Wake County and the town of Garner held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Garner Fire-Rescue and Wake County EMS Station, 125 Spaceway Ct., Garner, today, December 1, 2010, at 10 a.m. The public was invited to tour the facility immediately following the ribbon cutting.

“The new combined Fire-Rescue and EMS station is a model for an efficient

approach to service delivery due to its unique, multi-jurisdiction, multi-agency partnership,” said Tony Gurley, chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners. “The partnership reduces the cost for everyone – especially our citizens – while improving service.”

The opening of the new fire and EMS station will reduce the amount of time between when people in southeastern Wake County call 9-1-1 during an emergency and when help arrives.

“This station will serve a previously ‘left-out’ part of the fire district as well as areas of future new growth,” Garner Mayor Ronnie Williams said. “I want to thank the county for partnering with the town as we prove we are good stewards of taxpayers’ money.”

County Commissioners modified the boundaries of the Garner Suburban Fire Insurance District on October 18, 2010, an action that will change the fire rating classification of properties in the newly extended area. Homes and businesses in the affected area will move from a public protection classification of ten (10) to a six (6), which will enable property owners to save as much as 15 to 30 percent on their annual property insurance premiums.

The Board of Commissioners approved construction of the new station in October 2009.
