Recruit Academy Starts Today

Today, November 8, 2010, the Wake County EMS Division Recruit Academy started with 17 new recruits.  These 17 were selected from 112 applicants, over a multi-day selection process.

The 160 hour Recruit Academy covers a variety of topics from operational policies to cardiac arrest management.  New Recruits are put through a battery of test, including patient simulation exercises using a high-fidelity human patient simulator.

Upon successful completion of the Recruit Academy, recruits will begin phase II of their training, called Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP).  A Field Training Officer (FTO) will be assigned to each recruit to ensure mastery of knowledge and skills.  Then entire process takes eight months to complete.
